FLUID TESTING
Procedure
for Taking Samples of Silicone Fluid on Damper
Fluid
samples may be taken from dampers equipped with removable
fill plugs. In most cases two of these are positioned diametrically
opposite each other on the damper cover. If reasonable access
to one of these plugs is possible, the damper may remain
on the engine during this procedure. In other cases the
damper must stand in the normal vertical position during
sampling. It is recommended that the damper is rotated until
the two plugs are approximately horizontal and the damper
remains in this position for a minimum period of one hour
before the sampling procedure begins. In general, two types
of threads are used for the fill holes and therefore the
sampling containers are threaded differently at each end.
*Sampling kits are provided at no charge.

 |
Assuming
the thread size is known, prepare sample container by removing
cap nut from end to be inserted into damper. |
 |
Remove
fill plus keeping container ready for immediate insertion. |
 |
Screw sampling
container into fill hole. |
 |
Remove
other cap nut. |
 |
Allow fluid
to reach the open end of the container. This could take seconds
or over an hour depending on fluid condition and other factors.
To speed up the process, you may turn the damper 180 degrees. |
 |
Replace
cap nut immediately after fluid flows from the open end of the
container. |
 |
Keep fill
plugs ready for immediate insertion. Unscrew the container from
the fill hole. |
 |
Immediately
install the new fill plugs with sealant if required.
Tighten
to:
1.5 kpm
(type M10 X 1)
OR
4.5 kpm
(type M16 X 1.5)
|
 |
Replace
cap nut to the container and insure both cap nuts are fully
screwed on. Do not over tighten. |
*Fluid
sampling kits are provided at no charge, fee applied for fluid analysis.
Send
your sample to Heavy Duty Components for analysis.
